I think there’s something really amazing about this time in our world. Right now, in 2017, it is possible for anyone and everyone to have a job. Literally, if you have access to the internet (and everyone does, even if you have to go to the library) and maybe a little bit of start up cash (like as little as $50) you can have a job, if not own your own business.
You can sell your crafts on Esty. You can sell books or makeup or supplements or clothes through direct sales. You can do affiliate marketing on a blog. You can be an influencer on Instagram. You can have your own photography business. You can create your own cookbook. The world is our oyster. We can stay home and work.
I’m kind of writing this blog as a two-fold message. First, as a little bit of a public service announcement to be nice to people who are running their own business. Specifically direct marketing people, but any business owner, really. Don’t call it a pyramid scheme, or rant about how annoying their invites to “join their team” are. Like…yeah it is really annoying but these women are probably pushy because they want to stay home with their kids or something. Just ignore it if you aren’t interested. At least these people are brave enough to try something to get what they want.
But my main point here is to tell women (or men, as the case may be) that you can do it. You can do whatever you put your mind to. Write your book, make your scarves, snap those pictures, and charge what you’re worth. Seriously. Art should be paid for. Yep, a billion people out there think it should be free, but then they go to work at their jobs and get paid. This is your trade. Go do it! Buckle down and build the life you’ve always dreamed of.
It’s going to take work. And hustle. And you’ll have to spend time doing stuff that’s boring (paperwork, ugh). But one day you’ll be a stay-at-home mom. Or you’ll get to travel. Or whatever it is you dream of. Do it! Join that team and sell your makeup. Or design clothes from your basement. Do you. And do it big.
